Took a morning walk 

to pick a bouquet before the rains set in

Saskia, who was waiting at the church, joined me.

We didn't need to go far.

Then, it being Mardi Gras, 

I gathered ingredients

using raki rather than espresso

and made raikimisu.

With lunch, opened a bottle of liatiko, 

an ancient Cretan wine.

Another fine day.

Home again, enjoying the sun and prepping for the coming storm.

Swimming in the Aegean

To get to the Aegean

you climb up

into the limestone mountains

where the sheep live

and you slow down to greet them

and they greet you

after passing the πεντακόσιος (500th) sheep

turn left

then right

then left and right and left and right

and soon you will see the sea

your swimming spot is in sight

mind the road

and the angry chained dogs

and the beach road

and voilà! Mazida Ammmos Beach (Παραλία Μαζιδά Άμμος)!

Enjoy your not-quite-toe-numbing swim in the choppy, windy waters of the Aegean!
